In A Nutshell
I dare not presume I am important enough to attract readers to my blog that aren’t, in one way or another, familiar with who I am, what my goals are in life and what my likes and dislikes are. However, just for the sake of filling this page (and making it look like I’m actually a rather interesting person) I’ll try my best to make this as entertaining and informative as possible.
Hi. My name is Marin. Female. Student, 21 years old. Usually nice, except in the mornings. I’m not a morning person. Nice to meet you (again). No need for formalities, so let’s continue, shall we?
Some of you may wonder why on earth this WordPress blog is called ‘World by Mix’. Some of you may also know that I prefer using the name ‘Marinademix’ online.
Because I considered ‘Marinademix’ to be a rather silly name for a weblog, my search began for a more appropriate title. I wanted something smart. I wanted something that would cover a whole range of possible subjects, something that would give me as much freedom as I could to write about whatever it is that interests me.
Originally, I wanted to use ‘World of Mix’, but as it happens, that username was already claimed. (For some Spanish DJ blog, that hasn’t posted anything since it was founded in 2007, in case you’re wondering.) So, ‘World by Mix’ was created, as a combo between my interests and my online name.
If you think that’s a nice title: hooray for me. If you don’t like it: too bad. The damage’s done. And the world continues.
The thought of starting a blog was not because I have an awful lot to say, nor to express my creativity. I wanted to start a blog to keep the ‘homefront’ up to date with my four months long adventure in the UK. After I decided that I would, in fact, create one, it seemed rather silly to use it just for my Canterbury Updates. Sending an e-mail to friends and family would be far easier than maintaining a blog.
However, since blogs offer other opportunities/possibilities as well, it would probably be a good thing to embrace it and ‘go with the flow’, as they say. Plus: actively posting on this blog is a wonderful way to practice my English. Yes, I could write it in Dutch, but since this is a dot.com website I figured I’d stick to the international nature of this blog. Logical? No. Pretentious? Maybe. Fun? Hell yes.
I can’t guarantee this will be a lively blog. I can’t guarantee this will be more than a blog dedicated to the above mentioned ‘Canterbury Updates’ . I can’t guarantee my interest in this blog won’t die halfway through. I can, however, guarantee that I’ll try. It may not be nice, or pretty, or remotely interesting what I have to say, but I will try. And that’s got to count for something as well.
I hope.
